Monitoring: SmartChoice production is back online and available as of 3:30pm CDT on October 21. Thank you for your patience while the platform was in maintenance mode.

While SmartChoice was offline, our engineers made configuration changes designed to reduce SmartChoice's exposure to the recently disclosed PHP vulnerability. We tested these changes before restoring access. These measures significantly reduce the risk of exploitation, though no security measure can eliminate all risk. We are tracking the issue closely and will evaluate and apply a permanent fix as soon as one is available and can be deployed safely.

Investigating: Effective immediately, we have placed SmartChoice in maintenance mode as a proactive security measure. No security incident has occurred on SmartChoice, and we have no indication that any customer or student data has been accessed or affected. We expect SmartChoice to be back online by Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 5PM Eastern. Please plan alternate paths for your processes tomorrow and notify your staff of the downtime.

A recently disclosed vulnerability in PHP, a programming language used widely across the internet, is affecting a large share of web applications worldwide, and attackers are exploiting it against vulnerable applications elsewhere.
